TAFE Queensland's educational philosophy
At TAFE Queensland practical, job-focused training is at the core of everything we do. Our programs are designed in consultation with employers to ensure they align with the latest industry standards and our students graduate job-ready.
Our qualifications are recognised across Australia and respected world-wide. We offer a broad range of study options across certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, associate degree and bachelor degree level qualifications.
Training is offered through a variety of modes including traditional classroom, distance and online, workplace training, and blended delivery methods. Most courses are delivered through face-to-face teaching with classes held in modern classrooms, laboratories and workshops.
Classes can also include:
- on-campus simulated workplaces for you to practice your new skills (e.g. hair salons or restaurants with commercial kitchens)
- work experience or work placement
- supervised study time with a teacher.
Our programs are taught by experienced teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry knowledge with the next generation of professionals.
The teaching style at TAFE Queensland may be different to what you're familiar with. Interaction between students, their peers, and teaching staff is encouraged and the relationship between student and teacher may be more informal than you're used to. For example, it's acceptable and even encouraged for you to raise your hand and interrupt your teacher to ask a question. You may also be asked to do group work or give a presentation in class.
Our courses are assessed in various ways. Throughout your course you may complete a variety of tasks including class work, assignments, practical components and project work. You may be assessed using a combination of these tasks, continuous assessment and examinations. Assessment may be based on competency, marks and grades, or a combination of both.
