International students have the same workplace rights as all other workers in Australia including minimum pay rates they have to be paid, based on the work they do. A new national minimum wage, award wages and allowances come into effect from July 2018

On 1 June 2018, the Fair Work Commission (FWC) announced a 3.5% increase to base rates of pay, with the new national minimum wage set at $18.93 per hour, or $23.66 for casual workers which is the case for most international students. And in many cases, employers are already paying above the minimum wage.

International students can earn $946.40AUD working 40hours per fortnight on the minimum wage while studying – that’s over $24,000 per year!
