The red carpet was rolled out on Saturday 8 September for the prestigious 57th Queensland Training Awards. The vocational education and training sector’s ‘night-of-nights’ saw TAFE Queensland take home the 2018 Large Training Provider of the Year award – for the fourth year in a row – recognising our outstanding contribution to the delivery of vocational education and training in Queensland.

A total of 14 categories were contested at the 2018 Queensland Training Awards State Final, with TAFE Queensland represented in eight of these. Out of 85 finalists, 12 were our students, teachers and organisation category entries, and we took out a total of four awards.

The night also saw some of our incredible students and partners took home some awards:

Christopher Knight, a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology student, from Brisbane, employed by Followmont Transport Pty Ltd who took home the Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year award.
Odin Lowsley, Diploma of Graphic Design, from the Gold Coast, who received the Vocational Student of the Year award.

  • SunPork Farms Tong Park (Medium Employer of the Year Award)
  • Pullman Cairns International (Large Employer of the Year Award)
  • Mabel Park State High School (Premier’s Industry Collaboration Award)

The calibre of our vocational education and training sector was amply demonstrated by the quality of all of this year’s finalists who deserve our congratulations. You can read about all the winners on the Queensland Training Awards website.

The winners of the 2018 Queensland Training Awards will compete at the peak national awards for vocational education and training, the Australian Training Awards in Sydney on 15 November 2018.
