PNG emerging leaders develop new skills
12 May, 2017
Our Diploma of Leadership and Management participants from Papua New Guinea (PNG) have enjoyed their first three-weeks in Australia.
The participants have already covered a range of topics ranging from emotional intelligence to leading and managing effective workplace relationships. They have also participated in learning sessions focusing on core project management skills which they are keen to take back to their PNG workplaces at the completion of their studies.
Additionally, awardees have undertaken group work in anticipation of delivering presentations on their Short Course projects. These presentations will provide an opportunity for feedback on individual projects and enable participants to demonstrate key skills from the communications and performance management topics they have recently studied.
The awardees are greatly enjoying their course and getting to know their counterparts.
“I’ve been a manager for less than a year so this course is helping me to understand how I should be a leader to my team,” Francisa said.
“It’s been great getting to know our other team members as well. We’ve been together for four weeks now so it’s really good to be able to learn from them as well as from the lessons,” she said.
Malinz Ambranga has especially enjoyed getting to explore Brisbane with his fellow participants.
“Brisbane is amazing, it’s a very nice place,” Malinz said.
“The learning environment here is great – everyone has a smile on their face, and the hospitality is very good.
“It’s the perfect environment to study and work,” he said.
Through their studies, awardees are developing skills and knowledge to assist them to drive change and innovation that can help to influence PNG’s ongoing development.
Not only have they enjoyed learning in the classroom, but they’ve also taken some time out from their studies to explore and learn about the city of Brisbane.
Participants enjoyed a sunny day in Brisbane CBD where they got to ‘meet’ the honoured World War II Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel statue in ANZAC Square.
They also explored Brisbane’s iconic City Hall and learned about its long history including the halls extensive 2010-2013 restoration.
The Diploma in Leadership and Management is being delivered by TAFE Queensland in partnership with the Australia Awards program.
